These slides I have scanned in show the family images of the Pearce Family and show the photographic work of an amatuer photographer commenting on and recording his new family. The images have a certain retrospective feel to them as they were taken over twenty years ago on kodachrome slide film. This in essence is the aesthetic behind the book and the reason why I have chosen to publish this particular collection of images. I also strongly feel that the images, although at times a bit rough around the edges when considering technicalities such as focus and framing, still offer a certain amount of character and appeal to be good enough to publish. I will be scanning them (this will be the first time this has been done and for over twenty years the only way they have been viewed has been as slides through an old magnifier slide viewer) and enhancing them with photoshop. However, I feel that it is important to respect the original photograph and the photographers vision and so will only be doing some clour management, scratch cloning and contrast work. I wish to show the individual images as they were first framed but am thinking about using them to create seperate designs with my own personal stamp. I have searched through around 300 slides and am attempting to edit this number down to around 30. This task has proven to be tiring as the editing process is extremely important to the overal look and content of the book but I am finding that my initial aesthetic opinion of the slides is the deciding factor above anything else. If it looks good its in.
